After the collapse now what?

So i was asked do i have any interest in the playoffs now that the Mets pulled off a collapse of epic proportions?  The answer is not really, in order for me to have an interest i need a team to root for and i'm still struggling to figure out which team to root for but more on that later.  First the collapse, it hurts! A lot.  Man this ranks up there in terms of my all time top 10 sports disasters, right next to the Knicks losing in 93 and 94, Vinny going down with a torn Achillies and the bogus interference call in 2002.  This team the Mets needs a huge overhaul, change the entire pitching staff, save manie, perez, pedro, feliciano and wagner, but above all else they need to fix reyes.

Anyways who should i root for?  Lets break down why ican't root for each team...

New york Yankees - how in the world could i root for the evil empire
Boston Red Sox - How could i root for the evil empire part II

Actually i was thinking about this during the week, i have a lot of time to think and well i see both teams being evil empires, but if i had to choose i'd pick the Red Sox.  I liken the Yankees to be like Germany and the Sox to be like Russia in WWII in that outside of their "nations" both are despised by the majority of the rest of world.  The reason the Sox are like Russia is that while the Sox and their fans are an evil empire most of the rest of the baseball world is willing to look past all that and team up with them just so they can beat the other evil empire the yankees.

Philadelphia phillies - good team, great karma, but they did beat the mets and they also booed santa, nuff said.
Chicago cubs - hard not to root for them since they haven't won in like 100 yrs, but still bitter towards Soriano for the fantasy numbers he put up
Arizona diamondbacks - Outside of Webb i know no one else on this team, how can i root for them
Anaheim Angels - Name is too confusing, plus they won it all 4 yrs ago so rather root for a team that is desperate to win

which leads me to choose between the Indians and the Rockies.  both have great ballparks, really exciting teams, great players on both teams but it comes down to this, Denver as a city has actually had a championship in the past 15 yrs, the last time Cleveland celebrated a championship, was i believe 1948.  So there you have it i'm rooting for the Cleveland Indians... but i hold the right to change my mind....

Players you love to hate

There was a very funny article on page 2 of espn.com about players who were booed in a specific city even when they were playing for the hometown team, case in point Kyle Farnsworth and Guillermo Mota, who are both booed by their home town teams.  i thought the phillies section was nuts, never knew they booed Mike Schmidt!  So in honor of this article i list some of the athletes who will always be reviled by me, (Note: they are reviled because of what they did in the uniform of team i follow), i encourage you to all add your own lists!

7.  Stephon Marbury NYK - One of the, if not the most overated basketball player i have ever laid eyes on.

6. Juan Samuel NYM - Got traded for two great mets then did absolutely nothing, the Mets gave up Roger McDowell and lenny Dykstra for him, gosh....

5.  Blair Thomas/Kenny O'Brien NYJ -  I lump these two together because when you're drafted before a 1st ballot HOFer who played the same position as you, well you're going to be reviled no matter what you do.

4.  Neil O'donnell NYJ - Signs a huge contract as FA and then precedes to be just plain awful

3.  Guillermo Mota NYM - Only because its happening NOW!

2. Armando Benitez NYM- Just watch the 2000 World Series, nuff said.

1.  Charles Smith NYK- Watch the 93 playoffs again and watch him get stuffed not once, not twice but three times to end the game.

spygate 2007

If you're a sports fan and especially if you're a football fan you know all about spygate, but for those who don't know what its about let me explain, basically the Pats cheated.  They video taped the defensive signals of the opposing coaches which is strictly against the rules according to the nfl.  This blatant cheating by the Pats only serves to increase my utter contempt for the Pats, the team, the organization and especially the coach.  The man is classless, a jerk, and now an obvious cheater.  I cannot stand the man and to think he was once the coach of the Jets, albeit for one day.  So what should the punishment be for the Pats, well i believe we can start with the loss of a few draft picks, i don't think these picks should go to the jets though, since its apparent that the Pats cheated against almost every other team over the past few years.  But i also think their classless coach should be suspended for at least two games, allow him no contact what so ever with his team, no contact during the game, during practice and no game planning allowed, of course knowing this coach he'll find a way to circumvent that, because he's a cheater and classless!  This is on top of the fact that the team's defensive leader has been suspended for taking HGH.  So much for the Pats being the model organization.

Update

The Pats were fined 500,000$ and lost a first round pick, a reasonable and fair punishment, though i would have hoped for more.

A Trip to Remember

So i'm back from my trip out west.  I spent 10 days traveling the country with two friends, michael and chris.  We started off last Sat from my home in nyc and spent the next 9 days zooming across the country in michael's car, eventually landing in SJ Sat.  Total we drove around 3800 miles, through some of the most beautiful places i've seen.  Stops included cleveland, cincy, st.louis, kansas city, denver, vegas, LA, SD, and SJ  Along the way we stopped to take in ball games at all the cities that had teams.  Here is a day by day blow of this trip- (stop here if you don't want to read for another 10 mins and skip to the END OF THE POST)

day 1 - Leave NYC at 8am drive, 8 hrs to cleveland, OH to catch the Indians play the Devil Rays.  Final score of the game was 8-6 indians, though the score was much closer than it looks as the D-Rays scored 3 runs in the ninth. Highlight of game was watching Delmon Young throw, he's got a cannon, he threw a ball from the warning track to 3rd base on the fly and on a line drive.   Jacobs field is beautiful, every seat offers a great view of the field, we sat in the bleachers, in front of a bunch of guys who were just hillarious ripping on the D-ray LF, too bad they got kicked out, a shame really, they were nice guys who were having a lot of fun, perhaps a bit too loud but hey its the bleachers.  I was not impressed with Cleveland as a whole as it was the only place on this trip we got racial slurs yelled at us.  After the game we got stuck in traffic leaving the stadium area, poor urban planning.  Got to our hotel only to find that they overbooked because one of their rooms was down.  They put us in another marriot, gave us 2 rooms instead of 1 at the price we paid for the 1.

Day 2- Leave Cleveland and drive 3.5 hrs to Cincy to watch the Reds play the Cardinals, final score was 11-7 cardinals.  We saw one of the two certain Hall of Famers here in Ken Griffey, who hit a 3-run HR, but the highlight was Ryan Ludwick's 470 ft monster shot to dead center.  Sat in left field.  Lots of Cards fans at this game too.  Great American is a nice park, but it lacks alot of the extras that make a game interesting.  If you can't see the main scoreboard you miss out on a ton of info about the game, that was our main beef, but the stadium does have a nice view of the ohio river.  After game we traveled 5.5 hrs to St. Louis.

Day 3- Explored St. Louis, went the arch (overrated), and the Anheiser-Busch brewery (also a bit overrated), and saw the Cardinals take on the d-backs.  This was the only game we had to scalp tickets too, we wound up getting two tickets in the nose bleeds, and one right behind home plate.  So we took turns sitting behind home plate.  Final score 11-3 Cardinals, as the Cardinals score 6 runs in the 8th to put the game away.  No big highlights although mikey did almost catch a ball, it landed 4 seats away from him.  Busch is a nice stadium, and everyone is decked in red.  After the game there is a subway stop right at the stadium and all you see is this huge long line of people all wearing red.  Cardinal fans are certainly passionate.

Day 4- Leave St louis around 10 travel 3.5 hrs to KC to see the royals play the mariners, unfortunately we saw the chiefs play the seahawks as the final score was 17-3 in favor of KC.  Kaufmann stadium is very non-descript, we sat 5 rows back along the 3rd base line and not a single ball was hit anywhere near us.  Highlight of KC was going to Arthur Bryants bbq.  if you are ever in KC and you like bbq, you have to go there.  We all agreed we ate the best ribs and sausage we have ever eaten at this place, you have to go there.  After the game we traveled 1 hr to stay in topeka.

Day 5- Leave Topeka and travel 8 hrs to denver to watch the rockies play the mets.  I was excited about this game the most, because its the mets, but it was a big let down, the mets got crushed 17-7.  No one, i mean no one on the mets staff could get anyone out.  It was pathetic.  Coors field is a beautiful stadium.  One of the best i've seen.  We sat in right field, and stayed the whole game, as mikey and chris wanted to torture me!  After the game we sadly had to drop chris off at the airport as he had to return to boston, traveled through our first storm that night, saw frightening but beautiful lighting along the way.

Day 6- leave Denver at 8 and travel to Vegas, by far our longest day of driving, over 750 miles and 12 hours, but it was by far the prettiest drive i've ever been on, better than driving on the PCH.  You start off climbing the rockies, reaching an elevation of over 11,000 feet, the highest i've ever been in a car.  Then you travel down the rockies, speeding down them on roads with 6% grades.  Then you travel through glenwood canyon, with mountains on one side and the colorado river on the other.  Then once you enter Utah, you travel through a barren wasteland where there is literally nothing for hunderds of miles.  No towns, no food, no gas, no buildings, no trees for as far as you can see.  Then you go through the virgin river gorge in Arizona with steep walls on both sides and a 6% grade over 11 miles with lots of S-curves, a fun drive.  We got to vegas around 8, went to eat at A Buffet, which was very yummy, walked around the strip and finally got to our off the strip hotel around 10:30, only to find that they had no more of the 60$ rooms we booked.  So they upgraded us to a suite, which was simply amazing.  It had a kitchenette, two leather sofas, a marble table, a full dining room table, a walk in shower that was huge, and a full bathtub.  On top of that there were 2 42" plasma tvs in each room, a LCD tv in the kitchenette and an LCD tv in the bathroom, so you could take a bath and watch tv at the same time, we got all of that for 60$.  I will most likely never get a room like that again.

Day 7- After eating another buffet, we leave Hot vegas, vegas was around 115, hottest place i've ever been, and drive 4 hrs to go to LA to see the Dodgers take on the Marlins.  Final score was 6-5 Dodgers, the lowest scoring game of our trip.  I didn't like dodger stadium at all, for one, the parking plan is awful, we couldn't park anywhere near our gate, two you cant walk around the stadium, each part of the stadium is closed off from the others.  We sat in the right field bleachers, and while Dodger fans are passionate and loud, they were probably the most clueless and most obnoxious fans on the trip.  I know Brett Tomko lost the game for you, but still if your closer does his job tomko is not in the game.  After the game we traveled 2 hrs to SD.

Day 8- Watch a day game at Petco field, my favorite park i visited. All of the newer parks are equal in terms of the asthetics and the game info and the game watching, but what i liked the most about Petco was that it doesn't look like a stadium from the outside, it fits right in with all of the other buildings around it.  Truly a beautiful park.  Final score was 8-5 Padres, and we saw our 2nd certain HOFer in Trevor Hoffman, who is absolutely beloved in that city.  We also got to see David wells explode and get tossed out of the game for arguing balls and strikes.  After the game we traveled up north to SJ.  Took us about 8 hrs to get there, we arrived around 1:30 am

day 9- Barely wake up, go to church, saw some friends who i haven't seen in a while and caught transformers.  Go SEE this movie, it is a great movie, one of the few movies i walked out of and said i'd see it again, arguably the best movie i've seen in years.  yes some of the lines are cheese and some of the humans are annoying, did they even need the female analyst and the hacker, but still watching Prime transform for the first time was like, WOAH!.  Yes there will be a sequel, as Kirby said, starscream jets off to the heavens and also notice how they show only megatron being dumped into the water.

day 10- fly back to nyc

Thats my trip, pics are coming, i would also like to ask for prayer for my friend tina nguyen.  Tina and i have known each other for 10 years now, she is a dear friend to me.  Tina has been in the Air Force since she graduated college way back when.  Tina was recently deployed to Iraq for 6 months.  If you can remember her in your prayers i would appreciate it.

How can you not fire him?

How can Don Imus say what he said and still have a job?  I don't get it.  In case you missed it Imus called the rutgers women's basketball team a bunch of "nappy headed hoes".  A racist, sexist and totally dispicible comment.  I can not believe he had the nerve to say that.  I dont know about the rest of you, but i am outraged and offended, even though i neither African-American nor a woman.  His comments were totally uncalled for.  Yet somehow he is only suspeneded for two weeks and doesn't lose his job.  Why?  Because Imus has high ratings, Imus draws in listeners and therefore advertisers and makes a lot of money for the people he works for.  There is no way this man should still have a job, even if he did say he went way to far in what he did.  If any of us said anything like that at our jobs, would we still have one?  Probably not.  So i ask how can Don Imus still have a job?  What do you think?  Was Imus punished correctly or should he as i agrue be fired?
